Some of the titles published by Wolfmont have been books with harsh themes, or books that depict the seamier side of life. While we realize that such books will often depict reality, we also realize that not everyone wishes to read such books. Perhaps they have enough of this sort of harshness in their own lives already, or perhaps they wish to shield their family members from exposure to such books. We can understand and appreciate such decisions.
Thus, Honey Locust Press was born.
Why not just change the sort of books Wolfmont publishes?
Many people are not at all disturbed by the harsh reality portrayed in the books published by Wolfmont. In fact, they may seek out such books as a way of adding excitement to their lives.
Publishing of "non-family-friendly" books has a place. Adults must make a choice to read or not read books with content that may not be suitable for children or for sensitive adults. We are not referring to pornographic books, but to books with themes that are true-to-life, or books that may be frightening to children but not to a rational, thinking adult. And before anyone characterizes all modern secular literature as hellish, let's consider Grimm's Fairy Tales, where two children push an old woman (granted, a witch) into an oven so that she is burned alive. Or the classic tale of the Three Little Pigs, which in its original form had the wolf falling down the chimney into a soup pot and being boiled alive.
Ultimately, however, we wish to create a new standard for secular books by closely scrutinizing the books we select for publication, and only publishing those books which, although exciting and compelling, do not drag the reader's mind through the muck. We do not seek to censor other publishers or presses. We only wish to provide a place for authors to publish books which other presses may see as too "sweet" or not "edgy" enough, as well as a place for discerning readers to find such literature.
This part of Wolfmont, Honey Locust Press, is a very new endeavor, but we hope it will grow, and we hope you are along with us as we do.
